  Start with Preset Scans (Strategies)

Strategies organized by time of day: These are just a few of the scans you will find in the Strategies section. They are organized by time of day as a suggestion for when to start focusing on the particular set up. These morning scans will also be a good source of afternoon trades.

Opening Bell (5-min Opening Range)

These stocks provide great opportunities to trade the 5-min OR breakout or failure for trades that may last a few minutes or late into the day.

Gaps above the prior day's high and moving higher on big volume in the first 5 minutes, and for the day.

Gaps below the prior day's low and moving lower on big volume in the first 5 minutes, and for the day.

Morning
During the morning session get to know the day's volume leaders that have established their Opening Range or daily highs or lows at trader pivot levels (R2 & S2). These provide great opportunities for trading breakouts and failed breakouts.

Volume leaders in the first half hour and for the day that are within or above their Opening Range and near a 52-week high.

Volume leaders in the first half hour and for the day that are within or below their Opening Range and near a 3-month low.

Stocks with their high of the day (HOD) and last price near the floor trader pivot level of R2. This is a great level from which to follow or fade the day's strength.

Stocks with their low of the day (LOD) and last price near the floor trader pivot level of S2. This is a great level from which to follow or fade the day's weakness.

Afternoon

The trader pivot level of R2 is often an area of significant support and resistance. Stocks breaking good consolidation patterns at this level will usually move in the breakout direction. This strategy does not require R2 to be near the HOD so the consolidation may be a retracement back down to R2.

The day's strongest stocks that have retraced 24% to 38% of their move measured from today's LOD to the HOD.

For the same reasons mentioned above about consolidation at R2, S2 provides great trading opportunities.

  Make Money Consistently:

Act like successful traders: There are lots of different trading systems, styles, and rules. However, all successful traders have common traits and habits. They focus on what they know, simplify their approach, and start each day prepared.

1.

Get Focused. Specialize in only a few strategies to start. Pick strategies that fit the style of trading you are interested in (scalping, day-trading, or swing).

2.

Simplify - Plan your day. Figure out ahead of time which patterns you will focus on based on the time of the day and market conditions. Select Strategies that find your setups and save them as a HS Favorite so you can find your favorite trading conditions quickly and easily.

3.

Maintain Portfolio(s). Maintain a list or two of stocks set up to move. Let HS scan your customized lists of stocks! Create HS favorite scans to alert you when your stocks act the way you like - near an OR level, pivot level, HOD, LOD, trading big volume, retracing, etc.

Creating good portfolios can be as easy as reviewing the leading stocks of the day that showed up on the scans on this page and in the other strategy sections. Identify stocks at key areas of support or resistance and trending on a daily time frame.

Did you know you can click on any symbol in HS to quickly add it to a portfolio? You can also elect the "Symbols Only" check box and then copy and paste all the stocks from a scan into a portfolio.
